This technical report gives the characteristics of the estuarine professional fishing located in the lower course and at the mouth of Adour river during the fishing season 2000. The fishery statistics for all the migratory amphihaline species (excepted glass-eel) are recorded according to the calendar year. For the glass-eel landings, the statistics given are relative to the fishing season (November, 1, 1999-March, 31,2000). The 2000 fishing season is characterized by a medium level of landings around 50 metric tonnes, but a high turnover, the highest of the 1985-2000 series: 1.47 Meuros. An evaluation of the state of the main exploited species is given: Atlantic Salmon, Sea Trout, Allis Shad, Sea Lamprey and Eel (glass-eel and yellow eel). The catch... |

Connectivity in aquatic systems is often related to abundance and permeability of physical barriers, such as dams, which delay or impede movements of biota with important consequences for aquatic biodiversity. Water quality may, however, also control connectivity between essential habitats. In macrotidal estuaries, Estuarine Turbidity Maxima (ETM) have a strong impact on water quality because of the low oxygen concentration occurring as a response to the related high bacterial and low photosynthetic activities. In this study, we assess Allis shad estuarine spawning migration in 2011 and 2012 in the Loire River (France) where the ETM occurs at spring and summer. Using an acoustic telemetry array, we show that trans-estuarine migration is inhibited during... |

The characteristics and activity of adult allis shad [Alosa alosa (L.)] were analysed during the last part of their upstream migration in the L'Aulne, a small river in Brittany, and during reproduction on a unique spawning ground downstream of an insurmountable dam. The age of the spawners ranged front three to seven years, females being larger and older than males. Population-level migration and reproduction were studied by counting the number of migrating fish, by estimating the sex ratio, and by counting the number of nocturnal spawning acts for three consecutive years starting in 2000. The influence of the environment, especially water temperature and discharge, was highlighted: temperature during migration may supplant the influence of water flow,... |
